The Rajasthan forest department on Friday night detained one person from a village inside the Sariska tiger reserve premises in connection with the death of a five-year-old tiger last month.
On Friday, forensic test reports confirmed that ST-1, the first tiger translocated to the Sariska reserve from Ranthambore, died due to poisoning.
According to the forest department, the forensic team found traces of organophosphates in parts of the tiger's body. Forest officials said this was a compound found in insecticides. "Those responsible could have poisoned some meat and left it for the tiger," said forest officials.
Senior officials said on Saturday that they had detained one person, Parsadi Lal Gurjjar, in connection with the death of ST-1. "Gurjjar and three brothers, all residents of Kalkhet village, live within one kilometre of where the dead animal was found. We are questioning him about the incident," said an official.
