NTCA doubles allowance for staff in tiger states

NAGPUR: National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a statutory body under the ministry of environment and forests ( MoEF), governing all tiger reserves in India, has doubled the allowance for staff in Project Tiger areas.

It is for the first time in 15 years that the allowance has been enhanced. A circular enhancing the allowance was issued on October 27 to all chief wildlife wardens and chief secretaries of the tiger range states. The revised pay will be applicable from September 1, 2009.

It has come as a morale booster for over 700 employees in the three tigers reserves in the state—Tadoba-Andhari , Melghat and Pench. Over 500 employees will benefit there. Under Project Tiger , reconstituted as NTCA in 2006, right from the field director to peon, everyone gets 'Project Tiger' allowance.

At present, the allowance ranges from a minimum Rs 200 to maximum Rs 1,000 per month.
